FAILSAFE FELINE FLICKS!
Creating the perfect feline flick need not be difficult and is an essential trick to have in your make-up arsenal. Classic and understated or graphic and modern once you master the technique you can create lots of amazing looks.
I will start with my favourite products.
There are so many products to choose from when wandering the make-up aisles, but for ease of use, portability and for first timers, I suggest a felt tip pen style liner. There are lot’s out there but my favourite is by Eyeko. (Skinny Liquid Eyeliner, £12.00. Available at Selfridges, selected Space NK stores and on-line at http://www.eyeko.com/eyeko-skinny-liquid-eyeliner )
The key with a felt pen liner is the shape and width of the applicator tip. Too thin, and it is more difficult to get a clean line, too thick, you will end up with a flick of ‘Amy’ proportions. This one is perfect.
Another more easily available pen is Maybelline, Master Precise Liquid Liner. (£5.99, available from Boots.) Again, this has a really good application tip which is easy to apply in a clean sweep at the right angle.
These two products also have great ink consistency. Depth of colour is vital to ensure the longevity of your flicks. Many other pens are too watery or matte in consistency and lack the deep inkiness of these two liners.
If you wish to perfect your liner skills with a gel liner and fine liner brush, the method used by most make-up artists, then I have three product recommendations.
First is Bobbi Brown, Long-wear Gel Eye Liner (£18.00) For consistency, and if you need your liner to be very water resistant, this is my favourite, silky smooth and colour dense. The only thing I would advise is perhaps investing in a different brush, The Bobbi Brown brush is wide and tapered. A fine liner brush such as MAC 210 or Real techniques Fine Liner Brush will be easier to get to grips with.
Second up is MAC’s Fluidline. Another fantastic product at a slightly more affordable price point and a mainstay in many a make up artist’s kit. (£15.50)
My final product should not be overlooked merely because it is high street. The difference between Maybelline’s Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner and the afore mentioned luxury brand options is almost undetectable. At £7.99 if you are cash strapped it really is a no brain-er. Just ditch the brush it comes with…
And that brings me to my number one tip when it comes to gel lining. Invest in a good brush. This is the game changing item. The difference between eye liner and amazing eye liner is all in the brush! The real Techniques version is affordable and available at most Boots stores.
That’s it for now beautiful people. Pop back soon and I will take you through my eye liner application tips!
Thank you for reading.
